5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE SmackDown Live (9 Aug)

3. Winner: Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss is nothing if not an opportunist. Following Eva Marie’s latest act of subversion, Bliss emerged from the backstage area with a microphone in-hand and answered Becky Lynch’s open challenge. This was no small move from Bliss, as Becky is comfortably the most over woman on SmackDown’s roster, and the wrestler most fans would point towards as the brand’s leading female light.

The match itself was perfectly serviceable, and Bliss was able to showcase her trademark short fuse and nasty attitude throughout. In the end, Eva Marie’s re-entrance caused the distraction, Bliss took Becky down, then put her away with her Twisted Bliss finisher. Regardless of the circumstances, it was a big win for Alexa in her first match for SmackDown, and it sets her off to a great start on the blue brand.

Bliss has considerable potential, even if her NXT education wasn’t quite finished at the time of her call-up. She’s already a solid wrestler and one of the best character actors in the company, and if she continues on her current career trajectory, she’ll be a huge heel in WWE. Eva Marie might be getting the early spotlight, but look for Bliss to rise up and challenge for her spot sooner rather than later.
