5 Game Changing WWE Moments That Just Lead To Business As Usual
5. Chris Jericho Becomes The First Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion
The Moment: In the world of professional wrestling, there is one thing that every person who steps through that curtain strives for. One thing that is the epicenter of the promotion. One thing that has set record gates around the world for decades. One thing that men bled for, lost friends & family over, gained fame & fortune most dream of because. That one thing is the World Heavyweight Championship. For decades, the most prestigious title was that of the NWA. Any wrestler worth mentioning held or fought for that title, as it truly said that you were the best in the world. However, once the 1980s rolled around, the once regional, now world-wide territory known as The World Wrestling Federation was home to what could now be proclaimed the true World Heavyweight Championship, as the WWF & Hulk Hogan had truly taken over the world. For decades, multiple notable wrestlers held each title, with fans wondering if we'd ever see a true, undisputed champion. Once WCW was purchased, we soon got our answer, as a massive tournament was held, with the finals taking place at the 2002 Judgment Day PPV. Chris Jericho would go on to defeat The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin in the same night, creating wrestling history as the first, true, and undisputed World Heavyweight Champion. The Aftermath:
Those last few sentences sound great in theory, but when the WWE put them into practice, it turned the entire event into a joke. Jericho and The Rock had a fantastic match, in which Jericho won clean, but in his match against Austin, he was made to look like a joke & a fluke. Nick Patrick, Ric Flair, Vince McMahon, and Booker T were all involved in the match, so that Chris' win was made to look more like the luckiest event in history, and not the main-event, star-making turn you'd want for a man who's becoming the world's first Undisputed Heavyweight Champion. Immediately after they had Chris take a back seat in his feud against Triple H, which was more like Stephanie McMahon w/ The First Ever Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, Chris Jericho vs Triple H. He had absolutely zero edge, and zero credibility, defeating Austin twice while champion, with each time involving outside interference. Meanwhile, Triple H was made to look like an unstoppable, perfect machine, while Chris Jericho looked like a dog-walking goon who was stuck in the friendzone. Within 3 months of crowning the first ever Undisputed World Heavyweight Champion, they completely killed the title, making it slightly more valuable than all the other second-tier titles that once held value. Soon, they'd break the titles in two again, and simply give the World Heavyweight Championship to Triple H on an episode of RAW.
Caliber Winfield is more legend. Despite making up every rumor himself, they're all true. He's so manly he has to shave his eyeballs, and he was mistaken for The Rock as well as Ryan Gosling in the same day, both men said it was the greatest day of their life when they heard the news.
