5 Highlights From NJPW Dominion 6.11 In Osaka-Jo Hall
2. 60 Minutes, 6 Stars
How do you follow up what many were calling 'the greatest match of all time'?
Do it again. Only this time, make it 60 minutes.
That's right. Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega fought to the final bell in the main event of Dominion. It was a gruelling affair, leaving both competitors spent, as well as most viewers.
It proved to be a classic sequel, with spots harkening back to their first encounter. Kenny kept trying to hit the top-rope dragon suplex; Okada reintroduced the table that had so greatly aided him the first time round; Kenny finally hit the One-Winged Angel, only to have Okada's foot fall on the rope.
Eventually, fans began to notice the timekeeper's calls: 'ten minutes left'; 'five minutes'; 'two minutes remaining!' With a mere thirty seconds to go, Okada hit that final decisive Rainmaker that he had been searching for, but couldn't make it over to Kenny for the cover. The bell rang, and both men immediately received medical attention, most likely amid fears of dehydration.
In this rare case, no winner is the best winner. Okada will now go into the G1 Climax as Champion, but Kenny's foot is still in the door. For now that's two matches, 12 stars. Right Meltzer?
