5 Indie Wrestling Feuds That Carried Over Into WWE
1. Sami Zayn Vs. Kevin Owens (ROH)
The tale shared by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens is a wonderful one, the pair have been linked for virtually their entire careers. As early as 2006, both men were teaming together in organisations such as Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Ring Of Honor.
That lengthy period as a unit (when they were known as El Generico and Kevin Steen) would only make a later feud in ROH all the more meaningful.
At ROH's Final Battle 2009, Steen turned his back on his longtime partner. A year-long rivalry culminated in an excellent brawl at Final Battle 2010. On his way out of the company in 2012, Generico also put Steen over in fine style, again at Final Battle.
Now, both are tearing it up in WWE as Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. At Payback 2016, they met in a well-received match, and it was a poignant evening for both. Their careers had come full circle, and the real-life friends have finally been able to work against one another on a WWE pay-per-view.
Zayn and Owens must be considered the greatest example of an independent feud resuming in WWE, because they even clashed at WrestleMania, albeit in a multi-man Ladder Match affair, and also in NXT.
