5 Key Focus Areas For AEW Dynamite Year 3

2. Solidfying The Women's Division

The women’s division has been brought up as AEW’s biggest weakness since the company’s foundation, particularly in comparison to the one found on NXT, though that is now something in limbo after a slew of releases and ‘promotions’ to the main WWE roster.

Britt Baker was the main female focus on Dynamite throughout its first year and has remained the centre of attention during much of its second. Nobody can deny her that spot given how she has taken the bull by the horns and established herself as one of the cornerstones of the company, but her pool of contenders, whilst no longer lacking in depth, present little threat to her with their current booking.

Hikaru Shida has largely vanished since dropping the women’s title to Baker in May. Nyla Rose seems to show up for a title match once every few months and then disappear herself. Thunder Rosa has been criminally underutilised since the bloodbath with Baker that resulted in her finally being signed and the joshi cohort from Japan are still heavily affected by Covid-19 travel restrictions.

The likes of Jade Cargill, Anna Jay and Red Velvet have continued to excel but still need time to develop up to main event level, meaning that a key priority for the next year should be making use of seasoned hands like Rosa, Serena Deeb and Ruby Soho to elevate them and showcase why there needs to be more than one female matchup on each show.
