Without a strong wrestling background, CM Punk is at the mercy of the more dominant wrestlers in the UFC. This is a huge deal: if any one discipline has remained dominant in the sport over the years, it has arguably been (and note that we say arguably) wrestling. Punk has trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Rener Gracie, so he does have skills on the ground, but his level is questionable, since as per Gracie, he has yet to train full time. That will no doubt change now, but since fights are often decided simply by take-downs (and at times, by take-downs that resulted in little more than "lay and pray"), Punk needs to shore of his defence as best he can in the time that he has.
