5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (Feb 16)
1. And Now For Something Nice
Wrestling is a miserable business, generally. Even when the fiction raises a smile, the harsh reality is that the men and women who sacrifice their bodies for our entertainment do so as part of an ostensible slave racket that has, in its grisly past, demanded a mortal toll.
So, on this week's RAW, two performers reminded us that, even in a company as legendarily toxic as WWE, some of those behind the curtain are genuinely good guys. In the lesser but no less heartwarming moment, Kurt Angle castigated the fans who cheered Jason Jordan's career-threatening injury with a stern "If any of you get any kind of joy out of seeing a WWE Superstar get injured and miss WrestleMania, then you should be ashamed of yourself."
Then, John Cena, having spotted a disabled superfan at ringside, rushed over the barricade and whispered some words in their ear. The delight etched on their face was really something. Almost life-affirming in these awful times. We give Cena a lot of grief, mostly for adopting a tender embrace as a submission finisher, but he is a genuine role model. For that, he is to be commended. The idea of John Cena going out his way to make somebody's day really isn't that insane. He has made a career of it. It his dedication that is insane, and that huge heart of his was on full display in San Jose.
He even let The Miz kick out of the AA!
