5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (July 20)

3. "Never Fancied Her Anyway..."

Ultimate Warrior Vs A Ghost
ROH/NJPW

WWE is nothing if not petty. As news broke of Ring Of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s incredible Madison Square Garden raid, the company issued a statement in response to The New York Post.

“MSG is, of course, free to work with ROH however they want.”

How magnanimous.

Somehow, this felt empty. That might have something to do with ROH COO Joe Kofi’s recorded statement to PWInsider in June, in which he confirmed that MSG initially reneged on the deal. “Backing out,” is how Koff put it. So essentially, MSG is free to work with ROH after WWE’s legal team failed in their spiteful pursuit of blocking the arrangement. Turns out “It doesn’t matter that we rarely run MSG these days due to prohibitive costs, even though we’re richer than ever; we did it first, so there!” isn’t reasonable legal grounds.

In the same breath, WWE will tell us that they wish to work alongside the Independent scene in order to bring up the next generation of talent, so that they can book them like sh*t and job them out to awful Performance Center grads in a desperately boring and pathetic crusade to prove that WWE > Indies.

This response was glorious reading for those sick to the back teeth of sports entertainment. WWE, in going the “Never fancied her anyway…” route, have proven themselves to be spiteful to the point of parody.
