In news that would be hilarious, were it not terrifying, WWE held a For Your Consideration event on Wednesday. For those unaware, this was a campaign embarked upon in an attempt to court an Emmy award. WWE thinks itself worthy of winning an award - the most recognised and prestigious award! - for its televised output. Specifically, one of either Mixed Match Challenge, 24: Empowered or - oh, my! - RAW25. Can you imagine the pitch?

“In the opening segment, we more or less rehashed footage from 20 years ago. Yes, this was a clip show that we’re submitting for original content. We also paraded out a bunch of legends for no reasons other than a sight gag, much like the definitely critically-adored Family Guy series. Our writing was showcased with an Undertaker promo almost Twin Peaks-esque in its mystery. Nobody knew what the f*ck he was on about! And, with the ballsy strategy of Game Of Thrones, we killed off several fan favourite characters, most notably The Revival.”

At the actual campaign, Roman Reigns said the follow to assorted members of the press:

“We’ve been able to conquer social media’s platform of positivity.”

Wow.

Your writer was under the impression that WWE offered up this tripe because it doesn’t have to try.

This confirms that they actually think it isn’t dreck.
