5 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (May 4)

1. Red State

As of writing, Glenn 'Kane' Jacobs has edged 17 votes ahead of rivals Brad Anders and Bob Thomas in a race to become the Republican candidate in the 2018 Knox County Mayoral elections. A close race that looks well ran by the political 'Big Red Machine', particularly considering that should that lead remain in tact he'll be the heavy favourite to win the General Election based on the Republican political leanings of the state residents.

There's precedent for such a thing, of course. Jerry Lawler tried and failed several times to become Mayor of Tennessee, but The Great Sasuke and Atonio Inoki both dabbled politically in Japan. Having conducted Mayoral duties in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota between 1991 and 1995, Jesse 'The Body' Ventura famously toasted his newly-won Minnesota Governors role in 1998 by making amends with Vince McMahon ahead of SummerSlam 1999, and 2013 WWE Hall Of Fame inductee Donald Trump still (again, strictly as of writing) just happens to sit in the world's most powerful chair.

Jacobs paid attention.

After initially tacitly alluding to his maiden career with a flame in his logo, Jacobs went all-in as the campaigns - ahem - heated up. In-character autograph sessions alongside Daniel Bryan and The Undertaker (with free VOTE GLENN stickers!) yielded some memorable images, as did a 'Raw Is War'-inspired election t-shirt. Wrestlers on Twitter almost universally voiced their support to their millions of followers.

In a race this close, was it actually pro wrestling rather than policy that got him over the line?!
