5 Most Star-Studded WWE Royal Rumbles Ever
1. 1992
1992 was supposed to be the year everyone's 80s dream match came true. NWA legend Ric Flair had finally made the journey north after a stint with WCW, and Hulk Hogan - the winner of the preceding two Rumbles - was ready and waiting in WWE. We never got that, but we did get this instead.
The match started out with The British Bulldog (granted, never a main eventer, but never far away either, and the man who would headline Wembley Stadium at SummerSlam later that year), and the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Flair entered at #3, a young Shawn Michaels at #6, and then Roddy Piper, Jake Roberts and Jim Duggan (who won the first Rumble four years earlier) all came down before we even got to number 20.
When Undertaker, Randy Savage, Hogan, Sgt Slaughter and finally Sid Justice joined them at the end, it became easily the most star-studded Rumble to date, a perfect mix of established main eventers and up-and-coming youngsters. The reason? Apart from the fact it was the first that involved Flair, it was also the first to be contested for the WWE Championship itself, which meant none of the big hitters were tied up in a singles match for the title.
