5 Names You'll Never Hear In A WWE Ring Again

5. Marc Mero

We'd venture a guess that there are few less popular names amongst the locker room than that of Marc Mero's. The outspoken former Intercontinental and WCW Television Champion has incurred the wrath of current performers for his media appearances on multiple occasions, most notably his comments regarding steroid use and wrestler deaths in the wake of the Chris Benoit killings. Like the Ultimate Warrior, Marc Mero's name will be a mainstay in wrestling history for his in ring achievements. He was a rising star in the 90's, winning the WCW Television Championship on three occasions as Johnny B. Badd before jumping over to WWE as the 'Wildman' Marc Mero where he would quickly win the Intercontinental Title. He had a progressive high flying style and with valet (and real life wife) Sable became a crowd and company favourite. Mero and Sable's popularity, alongside two of the company's first guaranteed contracts, should've seen him become one of the leaders of WWE's 'New Generation' - but a succession of injuries halted his progress, and poor backstage relations saw the couple walk with three years guaranteed pay in 1999. Despite a bright start to his WWE career, Mero's fall from grace was almost as quick as his quiet departure from the company. Mero wrestled part time before retiring in 2005. He resurfaced in main stream media when he spoke out against the wrestling business during the Chris Benoit scandal, citing steroid use as the main factor in the premature death's of over 30 wrestlers. Amongst others, Dave Finlay responded to the comments by citing that Mero had 'nothing to do with the business'. Mero has had zero involvement with WWE since his departure in 1999, and it's safe to say at this point given his massive unpopularity backstage that he likely never will again.
