1. He Still Thinks Like A Pro Wrestler
CM Punk is apparently on board the Conor McGregor bandwagon. Which is fine - McGregor has proven that he has the talent to back up the talk after knocking out one of the best fighters in the featherweight division, and arguably the best wrestler, in Chad Mendes at UFC 189. In regards to McGregor, Punk stated
I love Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor's great business; that's a guy who gets it. That's pro wrestling. That's Mohammad Ali, and Mohammad Ali got that from Gorgeous George.
So there you have it. Punk definitely appreciates the promotional side of the fight business, something that rubs many MMA fans the wrong way. Those who happen to be pro wrestling fans tend to be more permissive when it comes to trash talk in MMA, but it will always have its opponents. It's also interesting to see him note that McGregor is great business. The Irish interim champion is just that, a huge draw for the company thanks to his wrestling-like promos and quick wit. It's also clear that Punk still appreciates the history of pro wrestling. So when it comes time to fight, will CM Punk go this route? Time will tell.
