2. Paul Burchill
Heres one guy who actually got called up to the WWE, twice! Ad both times WWE failed to use him properly. Burchill was signed back in 2005 and almost made his WWE TV debut right away. He debuted in WWE by helping out William Regal, you know, because they are both British. Regal & Burchill were a good team, but mostly just had matches. We didnt get a lot of promos out of them. In 2006 Regal & Burchill talked to Palmer Canon stating that they didnt want to be a team anymore. During the conversation, Burchill stated that he has some pirate blood in him. So of course, Burchill became a pirate similar to that of Jack Sparrow. The gimmick worked, in a way. He was getting a good reaction from the crowd and they seemed to like him. Of course, that gimmick can only take you so far and he was killed on in June. The pirate gimmick didnt last too long and he spent most of the time feuding with Regal, including making Regal dress up as a gorilla, a chicken, and a buxom wench. You know, like pirates do. Burchill went back down to OVW and had the gimmick of The Ripper. He was incredible! He won the OVW Heavyweight title and looked awesome doing it. He would wear this black beanie-type hat and a black face mask that covered his mouth. He had black gloves and looked like a real badass. I loved this Paul Burchill. LOVED it! When WWE called him back up, I was excited. I was hoping that we would see The Ripper. Instead, we got a potentially incestuous brother-sister relationship between him and Katie Lea. I liked Katie Lea too. I thought she was a great wrestler. Lea and Beth Phoenix had a ladder match back in 2006 or so. Back when the women didnt do those matches. I was disappointed once again with WWEs use of Burchill. This time was even worse. They were brought in and they did nothing with them! Burchill had a really good match with Christian on an episode of Superstars, but that is all I can tell you that he did with this gimmick. He was later moved over to ECW and had a brief feud with Hurricane. Admittedly, I liked the feud. Burchill was funny. Of course, he lost and they continued to do nothing with him. Burchill was later released and I now believe he works full-time as a firefighter. WWE wasted a good one here and I do wish some day that he will make a comeback.
