5 Positives & 5 Negatives From WWE Royal Rumble 2016
Negative...
5. Sasha Kicking Becky Lynch
To start off the not-so-great moments of the 2016 Royal Rumble is the questionable booking surrounding Sasha's return. After Charlotte's post-match beatdown on Becky Lynch, the crowd was hot for Sasha Banks' return. The Boss slowly walked down the aisle staring at Charlotte, stopped just outside the apron and took off her hand rings, climbed into the ring, and then laid a kick to...Becky Lynch? Knowing how the segment ended, with Sasha out-smarting Ric Flair and stretching Charlotte in the Bank Statement, it made the brief heel spot seem a bit confusing. If the goal was for the crowd to cheer for Sasha, which the segment was clearly positioned to do, why risk softening the cheers for her by having Sasha kick Becky Lynch, a beaten down babyface who had just gone through a long, hard-fought match? Had Becky quietly rolled to the outside of the ring before Sasha's entrance, leaving the two former NXT Women's Champions to have the ring to themselves, the segment would've played much better with even more people supporting Sasha. As it was, it seemed like a quick and cheap swerve for swerve's sake. Fans were surprised and booed when Sasha attacked the babyface Lynch, especially when all signs pointed towards her coming after Charlotte, but then the fans had to quickly turn back to supporting Sasha, making it a quirky, confusing mess.
