Donald Trump's past associations with WWE first came as the host of WrestleManias IV and V during the peak of WWE's success in the '80s. Far from the only one who wanted to get in on the success of Vince McMahon's organization, Trump was just one of the smarter businessmen to see the benefit of bringing WrestleMania to Atlantic City for back-to-back years.

It's the next phase of Trump's WWE involvement that rubbed many the wrong way.

In 2003, Trump became "part of the show" when he participated in the WrestleMania 23 promotion of the Battle of the Billionaires. Trump caught slack for "lowering himself" by participating in a match, but WWE hopes that, as President of the United States, "The Donald" would be open to appearing on their programming yet again.

President Obama has made mention of WWE in some of his speeches, always to point out something ridiculous or laughable, and in the past, a message of "get out and vote" has come across WWE televisions in which presidential candidates have been featured. Notwithstanding WrestleMania X and Survivor Series '95's President Clinton look-a-like, WWE has never had a live appearance by the President of the United States on their programming. With Donald Trump soon taking that title, WWE hopes that will change sooner rather than later.
