5 Positives & Negatives Heading Into WWE Hell In A Cell 2016
Looking back at the ups and downs on a rocky road to Hell in a Cell...
It’s almost been a full five weeks since the last Raw-exclusive pay-per-view. That may not sound like a particularly long time, but given the way the WWE calendar works these days it’s actually a fairly lengthy gap.
So with that in mind, you’d assume that the company would have been sure to make the best use of that time available and to have built-up the imminent Hell in a Cell PPV as effectively as possible.
In some ways that statement very much holds true. In others; not so much.
Personally, I think it's be fair to say that all in all, the build to this year’s Hell in a Cell has been rather hit and miss. There’ve been plenty of high points to savour along the way, but naturally it hasn’t all been plain sailing. For every groundbreaking announcement we’ve seen, there’s been a separate development elsewhere on the card that’s left us scratching our heads a little.
This article reflects on these highs and lows, as we count down five positives and five negatives as we head into Hell in a Cell 2016.
10. Negative - No Chris Jericho On The Card
We’ll kick things off with the negatives, and in particular one of the most noteworthy in the form of Chris Jericho’s absence from the card.
Obviously it’s a bit of a letdown any time that a legend like Jericho is left out. This time around though, the decision is looking all the more questionable due to the fact that it would’ve made perfect sense for him to be inserted into the Universal Championship picture.
As it stands, the Universal title bout will pit the champion Kevin Owens against the challenger Seth Rollins inside of Hell in a Cell. Now, there’s nothing wrong with that match-up per se – in fact it could easily go down as the match of the night. But with tension being teased between Owens and Jericho, this just felt like the perfect opportunity to throw the latter in the equation, stir the pot even further and build towards a likely Jeri-KO dissolution.
Ultimately, Owens vs. Rollins in Hell in a Cell is still a pretty awesome prospect, but the absence of Jericho and a Triple Threat stipulation does leave us wondering what could have been with this one.
