5 Positives & Negatives Heading Into WWE Hell In A Cell 2016
9. Negative - Missed Opportunity With The US Title
Speaking of missed opportunities, it seems fairly apt to move onto the United States Championship scene next, and in particular this rivalry between Roman Reigns and the champion-turned-challenger, Rusev.
Initially, I’d been all for Reigns’ acquisition of the US belt. Not only would this afford him some time away from the top-tier title and the baying anti-Reigns brigade, but putting the belt on a former world champion would presumably help to elevate the title – similar to the way in which John Cena did so when he reclaimed the title back in 2015.
Unfortunately though, and not for the first time, the Reigns-effect hasn’t quite mirrored the Cena-effect.
While the Reigns vs. Rusev feud has been afforded plenty of time in the spotlight, the championship has largely been an afterthought. Instead, the rivalry has been based around a personal tiff, and while that certainly furthers the story between these two, it doesn’t do too much for the title’s prestige.
Perhaps I’m being too picky here, but I just feel like the company could have done more to make the United States Championship – rather than Roman Reigns – the centrepiece in this one.
