5 Predictions For UFC 251

The fight everyone has been looking forward to since it was announced for UFC 251. The main event promises to match the hype surrounding it and leave few disappointed. The odds may be in Kamaru Usman's favour but this should do little to influence Jorge Masvidal, who thrives off his underdog status and brings with him a sense of unpredictability that will make him a tough competitor for the champion.

'The Nigerian Nightmare' is an imposing figure within the UFC and his position as Welterweight champion is deserved. He will take on a resurgent fighter in Masvidal who had an amazing year in 2019, claiming impressive victories against the likes of Nate Diaz, Darren Till and of course that infamous five second flying knee victory against Ben Askren. It is this aura of unpredictability which will be his greatest strength when it comes to fighting Usman this weekend.

Both fighters have strong striking abilities and their conditioning is equally as good. it will be interesting to see who is able to gain the advantage in the early stages of the fight as it is likely to have a cagey start as both fighters figure the other out. An area that could be the decider is takedowns. Usman has exceptional ability to bully his opponents and bring them down. Masvidal, however, is more than capable of getting out of these difficult positions and has a proven record of being able scramble out of danger.

Both fighters can showcase an impressive array of fighting ability and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. The question is whether Usman can maintain his weight class dominance or Masvidal can complete his fairytale rise and gain another underdog victory.
