5 Previous WWE Buried Alive Matches - Ranked Worst To Best
2. Steve Austin Vs. The Undertaker - Rock Bottom 1998
Steve Austin was by far the most popular guy in WWE even though he wasn't the WWE Champion at Rock Bottom, the last PPV of 1998. This one was set up on Raw when Undertaker put Austin on his cross and he was raised in the air. It was a memorable image that was also very controversial at the time. Undertaker was in heel mode, so it was built up really well with two of the biggest names ever. The match was a stand up brawl, which fit the style of both guys. They had a couple of teases where they fought by the grave earlier in the match, but they kept on going back to the ring. There were too many moments where they were slowly walking over to the grave. That's what they had to do to win although it didn't help the pacing of the match. Austin was tossed in the grave as Undertaker tried to fill it up, but Austin nailed him with two gas can shots in a row. Austin ended up hitting a Stunner by the grave. Undertaker fell into it. That was an interesting way to sell a Stunner, but it was well done so kudos to Undertaker for it. Undertaker ended up out of the grave as Austin left and then there was a fire from the grave. It seems like a running theme in these Buried Alive matches that there is interference. This one was no different. Kane popped out of the grave. He brawled with Undertaker while Undertaker went backstage to get something. Kane ended up giving Undertaker a Tombstone by the grave. Austin commandeered a truck that ended up dumping dirt on Undertaker, which led to the Austin win. This was the second Buried Alive match, so they were still getting used to the match and how to book it. It was still an entertaining brawl won by Austin, who celebrated by drinking beers by the Undertaker's grave.
