5 Reasons CM Punk Was WORTH The Trouble To AEW (... & 5 He Wasn't)
9. Wasn't: Grabbed The Headlines
Being the centre of attention is great when you’re doing something good. When the dirt sheets and message boards are awash with your latest ill considered promo, piece of politicking, or outright backstage fight, not so much.
The discourse around CM Punk has been inescapable and exhausting for wrestling fans. From All Out 2022 when he, Ace Steel, and Larry the dog did battle with the Elite onwards, Punk has been the main character in wrestling, whether he’s an active competitor or not.
He doesn’t help matters, it goes without saying. Punk’s comeback after his lengthy suspension was a chance to, if not wipe the slate clean, then certainly give it a good spit shine. Instead, he was straight back to his old tricks, taking a cheeky pop at the Young Bucks in his first promo, reportedly banning folks he doesn’t like from Collision, then indulging in a decidedly lame anti-Adam Page rant after the show went off air.
Any minor development in the post-All In melee necessitates reportage on wrestling news sites, because, again, CM Punk draws eyeballs. It’s a shame he’s so frequently in the news for his petulant behaviour rather than, you know, professional wrestling.
