5 Reasons Cody Rhodes Will Succeed In WWE (And 5 Reasons He Won't)
4. Will - A Better Relationship With The Rhodes Family
WWE and Vince McMahon specifically have always held a strange malevolence towards Dusty Rhodes. While bringing him in for a spell in the late ‘80s-early ‘90s, giving him a WrestleMania win and acknowledging him as a legend, they’ve frequently gone out of their way to humiliate him, dressing him in polka dots and naming two wrestlers after him (Virgil, Hakeem the African Dream) in a disparaging fashion.
Towards the end of his life, though, Dusty rejoined WWE as a trainer in FCW and then NXT, where he was beloved and venerated. Following his passing, NXT’s tag team tournament was named in his honour and he’s frequently shouted out as an influential and a great.
This should all put Cody in a much better position. While his status as a second-generation star was always mentioned, WWE will be far keener to invoke his father’s name now that Dusty’s well and truly part of the company’s fold.
Indeed Cody has been brought in as an executive producer for an A&E Dusty documentary. With the Rhodes family partially back in WWE’s good books, this could all be useful for Cody’s future endeavours.
