5 Reasons Not To Cheer For John Cena's WWE Return
1. Roman Reigns Will Still Be "The Guy"
I alluded to it earlier, but the main reason that John Cena's return won't be cause for celebration is that, in the end, it won't change anything: Roman Reigns will still be "the guy."
Cena spent years being hated by "smart" wrestling fans, but the pushback he received is nothing compare to anti-Reigns sentiment. With Cena, it always seemed like a part of the show - some fans came to cheer him, some came to boo him, but they all had fun. With Reigns, the hate seems more legitimate, and the reaction more one-sided.
If any former Cena haters are hoping that the 15-time world champion will save us from the Era of the Roman Empire, think again. Roman Reigns isn't on top because anyone's hurt, or because of a lack of options. Reigns is on top because the company wants him there and due to its business model, they have no immediate incentive to pull the plug on a storyline that isn't working.
In the end, it doesn't matter if John Cena returns. It doesn't matter if 10 John Cenas return. It doesn't matter if The Rock decides he's fed up with Hollywood and wants to come back to wrestling full time (well, that one might make a difference). Roman Reigns is on top, and that's where he's going to stay. John Cena won't be changing that.
