5 Reasons Why Jim Cornette Is The Biggest Heel In Wrestling Right Now
Whether you hate him, or really hate him, Cornette knows how to get under your skin.
Well, folks, James E. Cornette is at it again.
A familiar friend to controversy, the iconic manager, booker, and commentator has never made secret his views on modern wrestling (mainly that it stinks). Naturally, this would draw the ire of many modern wrestling fans, but Corny in particular paints a giant target on himself by going after hardcore wrestling darlings such as the Young Bucks, Joey Ryan, Chuck Taylor, Kevin Owens, and of course, Kenny Omega. This week, Cornette was on the warpath against Omega and fellow doll-wrestling enthusiast Kota Ibushi with this incendiary tweet:
Naturally, this remark has drawn quite a lot of heat, and once again, people have jumped on the bandwagon of hating Jim Cornette and wishing he would just go away. He’s a relic of wrasslin’ days gone by and his never-ending dump on modern independent wrestling shows that he’s just a bitter old man who only wants attention and for people to suck up to him and tell him how great he is.
In short: he’s the greatest heel in all of wrestling right now. Why? Here’s why:
5. He Gets People Angry
Here’s the most obvious reason. More than anyone else, Cornette has a real knack for getting under people’s skin and making them hate his guts. Through his tweets or through extended rants on his podcasts, Cornette infuses his incendiary rhetoric with enough bile to get almost anyone’s blood boiling, whether they passionately disagree with his viewpoints, or balk at the sheer audacity of the words used to describe them.
In modern wrestling, it’s hard to find heels people genuinely dislike. In Japan, you have “cool heel” stables such as Bullet Club and LIJ in the mold of DX or the nWo, and in WWE, the heels usually have so much more personality than their face counterparts that they get more over as faces (and the examples there comprise a list unto itself).
Point being: Cornette is able to turn himself into an actual, true heat magnet with one speech from his mouth or clattering of his keyboard.
