There's no arguing that bringing back marquee names from yesterday is a proven way to boost ratings, generate buzz, and secure an easy cash grab.

Where it may be good on paper, however, it's not always good in practice. Especially when these part-timers or one-offs damage the morale, momentum, and monetary incentive of full-time performers.

Bringing Goldberg back to squash the Fiend’s title run, only for the Reigns handoff to not take place was a huge waste. It unnecessarily steamrolled The Fiend's momentum and knocked him back down the pecking order.

Bringing in part-timers to advance a storyline only takes away valuable ring time for full-time superstars or forces them to take an unnecessary loss in the build. It doesn't matter which legend returns or who they face; when there's one more mouth to feed, someone else will go hungry.

Having The Rock return for a prizefight that he absolutely does not need will only take away opportunities from the superstars that have been grinding it out in the midcard for years.
