2. The "Universal Championship" Would Make Watching Raw Much Less Of A Chore
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOI2b6L2yzg The time was 1998. The wrestler, D-Lo Brown. The title was the European Championship, which was created to be little more than a trophy piece for a European tour and a great way to honor Davey Boy Smith. After that tour, the championship was a pawn used to get over Degeneration X as heels, until it fell into the mix of the very hot DX feud with the Nation. Between July-October 1998, "Chest Protector" D-Lo Brown and X-Pac had a feud for the championship that involved three title changes and both wrestlers being elevated on the roster as performers. Watching a three-hour WWE Raw in 2014 (just as it was oftentimes for two hours in 1998) is a chore. For every Daniel Bryan, Shield or Evolution segment, there's Sheamus having pointless matches with Christian (remember that) or Alberto Del Rio playing out the rest of his soon expiring (and expected not to be renewed) contract. Similar to the feud built around great matches that D-Lo and X-Pac had, entertaining (read: not-so-potentially boring) segments could happen with a "Universal Championship" in play.
