5 Reasons You Should Be Watching NWA Powerrr
3. Old But Gold
The National Wrestling Alliance was bought by Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan on 1 May 2017 and with this purchase he acquired its name, rights, trademarks and championship belts. In the years since, Corgan enlisted his production team to embark upon a total rebuild of the NWA brand whilst taking into account the 71 year history that came with it.
Starting with its 8 October premiere this year, all episodes of NWA Powerrr debut at 6:05pm. This choice of air time is a homage to the '80s classic World Championship Wrestling series promoted by NWA affiliate Jim Crockett Promotions which aired at 6:05 PM every Saturday from 1971 all the way to 1992. These throwbacks provide the viewer with a more retro product.
NWA Powerrr takes the viewer back to a very different, more territorial time in professional wrestling. A time before WWF/E had begun any kind of monopoly on the industry. This '80s infused experience provides great nostalgia for older viewers and a window into the history of the business for younger ones. In both cases, NWA Powerrr’s old school feel ensures a markedly different product in the currently crowded market of professional wrestling shows.
