5 Stupid WWE Title Changes WWE Must Totally Regret

5. Big Show (2002)

Brock Lesnar's emphatic win over The Rock at SummerSlam 2002 signalled a sea change in WWE. The 'Next Big Thing' had become such, and he would ably fly the flag for a burgeoning new generation of stars by carrying the top title. Then, along came a 7ft spider to tangle Brock in his web at Survivor Series. Along came the Big Show.

In fairness to WWE, it was believable that a giant like Show could topple a youthful beast like Lesnar, and he did have Paul Heyman's help to do it. Still, even with the future 'Advocate' doing the dirty (rather nonsensically, considering Heyman had led Brock to the title a few months earlier) on his client, the title change felt unwanted.

It also happened in just four minutes, and Show dropped the belt to Kurt Angle at the next month's Armageddon.

Immediately, some of Brock's prior invincibility was chipped away. He'd been beaten, quickly, and all because of a rushed need to turn him babyface. In retrospect, Lesnar could have done with some more time as SmackDown's lead heel.
