If ever another example of the erraticism Attitude era booking ushered in was needed, one need look no further than Kane's 24-hour WWF Title reign in 1998.

Originally a short-lived character who only existed so The Undertaker had a worthwhile opponent for WrestleMania XIV and another monster to slay, Kane somehow found himself toppling Steve Austin at King Of The Ring in one of the weirdest 'First Blood' matches ever; only Kane's left hand and some of his neck were exposed, making the stipulation rather one-sided.

The title switch was clearly done for shock value and nothing else. That nobody would expect Austin to lose his belt a mere three months after beating Shawn Michaels for it seemed to be the sole reason for booking the change.

The next night on Raw, Stone Cold regained his title and Kane never won the thing again. The word 'pointless' springs to mind here. There was no need to end Austin's first stint as champion so suddenly, or to gift Kane such a brief reign.
