5 Things AEW Does Better Than NXT (And 5 NXT Does Better Than AEW)
4. Pure Adrenaline
NXT is a sugar rush.
The product is calibrated to create unfiltered adrenaline rushes above all else, producing restless wrestling that moves at 100mphs. Watching a TakeOver event is akin to scoffing a giant bag of Skittles. You'll be exhausted by the end, but two-and-a-half hours will pass like a fraction of that as you leap from your chair, bounce off the walls, and struggle for breath, absorbed in a card on which almost every bout is designed to steal the show.
There isn't a promotion on earth that does this style like NXT. It is essentially prime Pro Wrestling Guerilla filtered through WWE's slick, big-budget production, with Triple H bringing the cult indie promotion's videogame style to a wider audience using much of the same personnel. The Undisputed Era, Candice LeRae, Keith Lee, and countless others, from midcarders like Bronson Reed to most of the main event cast, all starred in Reseda. It's no wonder the feel has shifted from the territory-esque stylings of old to an all-star indie.
A show for those who prioritise drama generated through big bombs and closing stretches built around multiple kickouts above all else, NXT has proved itself more fond of cocaine wrestling than even AEW, the promotion most criticised for working such bouts.
