5 Things Tony Khan's "Major" AEW Announcement Could Be

2. A Supershow With New Japan Pro Wrestling

When Tony Khan first made mention of the Forbidden Door and how he intended to keep said door ajar for non-AEW talents to step through, fans instantly started salivating at some of the matches that could take place between AEW names and the stars of New Japan Pro Wrestling.

So far, AEW has seen Yuji Nagata, Satoshi Kojima, KENTA, Tomohiro Ishii, Jay White, Rocky Romero and of course Minoru Suzuki as NJPW-contracted wrestlers who've made appearances, but what about if Khan is currently working on an all-out supershow PPV between his company and New Japan?

Top stars from both organisations - such as CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi - have talked up how there's certain matches they'd love to have with talents from the other company, and that's not even touching upon the history that so many on the AEW roster have with the NJPW and its competitors.

Incidentally, such a supershow might not involve talent 'merely' from AEW and NJPW, for there are clear established working relationships in place with AAA, IMPACT Wrestling and Billy Corgan's National Wrestling Alliance - which offers up the genuine possibility of an event that features talents from a whole host of promotions.

With Tony Khan labelling his upcoming announcement as a "major" one, such a multiple-promotion event would certainly warrant that "major" description.
