5 Times WWE Dropped the Ball With Epic Storylines

3. John Cena vs. Kane

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G84m9lHJYQ I found the origins of this storyline a little bit bizarre to be honest. But then I remember that I€™m speaking in terms of logic; something that WWE isn€™t really too concerned about. I didn€™t see the logic in Kane choosing to take out John Cena as opposed to Mark Henry; the guy that took him out. To me, I thought that a Kane vs. Mark Henry storyline would have been the natural route to go down on his return from injury and the perfect way to show his newfound dominance against someone of Henry€™s size and reputation. Putting this aside, WWE had a huge opportunity with the Kane and John Cena storyline. The first opportunity was to present Kane as the indestructible monster that he was in years gone by and this is what they did, at first. As well as attacking Cena on a regular basis, he also targeted Zack Ryder; an unnecessary element in this storyline, in my view. For me, the main opportunity in this storyline was to freshen up Cena€™s character and take advantage of the €˜Embrace the Hate€™ angle. WWE didn€™t have to turn Cena heel. I realise how opposed they clearly are to doing this at this stage for obvious and understandable reasons. However, Kane continued to attempt to anger Cena week after week, trying to tempt him into €˜embracing the hate€™. I feel that this could have tempted out the €˜ruthless aggression€™ in Cena that we were made aware of so many years ago in his hard-hitting debut with Kurt Angle. Despite being clearly incensed, Cena remained relatively composed and he went on to overcome Kane in an ambulance match to end the feud. I always felt that the storyline could have served a purpose in changing up Cena€™s character, but this unfortunately was not the case.
