2. Putting Hulk Hogan Back In The Saddle

When The Ultimate Warrior was crowned WWF Champion at WrestleMania VI, it was under the expectation that he'd lead the promotion for the next decade. His defeated foe, Hulk Hogan, had been the star of the '80s, but it was felt that now was the time for a fresh face on top.

Less than 12 months later, the hot seat had Hulk's familiar bum back on it. Warrior had failed.

The eccentric Warrior just didn't prove the draw McMahon hoped. (Perhaps fans were unhappy he'd turned the world title a lurid shade of purple.) Cutting his losses, McMahon decided to shift the title to Sgt. Slaughter at the 1991 Royal Rumble, merely as a conduit for Hogan's eventual re-coronation.

Warrior had failed to replace Hulkamania, and thankfully there was enough gas left in that tank to bring it back. Hulk happily stepped back in as McMahon tried to figure out the company's next step. Was it Ric Flair? Bret Hart? The Undertaker? Whoever, it was clear fans were tiring of the Hulkster's hero act, and his role would be temporary.
