5 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Dark (Jun 2)

Downs...

1. Skyler Vs. Gunn Misfires

Billy Gunn's onscreen AEW contributions have been fine so far as he only pops up occasionally and never takes shine from younger stars, exclusively working comedy spots and minor roles. Here, however, it could be argued that Austin, not Billy, should have gotten the singles match with John Skyler, as he's the only with his whole career ahead of him.

This was meh. Austin was playing up his Professional Fan of Professional Wrestling bit to the fullest on the outside, winding Skyler up to no end. The Southern indie veteran eventually left the ring to confront the younger Gunn, only for senior to get in his way, and in the back-and-forth in-ring action barely accelerated beyond screwing around.

Billy took the win with a Fame Asser, but this was a cutesy version of the my turn/your turn bouts that have made Dark so vanilla lately.
