5 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Rampage (Jan 19 - Results & Review)

2. A Really Slick Opener

Chris Jericho Matt Sydal
AEW

Chris Jericho wrestling Matt Sydal in 2024 is a bit random, but the pair managed to get a good match out of their hastily-thrown together challenge from Dynamite. Jericho hitting a top rope hurricanrana maybe didn't get the booming reaction he wanted though. Ye olde 'Y2J' wanted the same response Dustin Rhodes gets when hitting a Canadian Destroyer.

Pop, people!

The match was good overall. Yours truly also has zero complaints with Tony Khan sticking this sort of fare on Rampage either, 'cause the show is perfect for showcases. Besides, Jericho is still considered a major star in some circles, and that counts for something when looking to heap star power onto the 'C' show.

Sydal moves at some pace, but knows when to slow himself down here or there. Contrast that with the breakneck speed workers like Vikingo or Action Andretti go, and it becomes obvious how important pacing is to any match.

Pacing was evident here, at least.
