5 Ups & 2 Downs From HBO's André The Giant Documentary

2. Refreshing Lack Of WWE Spin

Sure, hearing Vince McMahon talk about "93,000" people in attendance for WrestleMania III lends an unneeded sense of kayfabe to proceedings, as does his claim not to know how tall André really was. Scrape those aside though and there's a curious lack of WWE spin on the film.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund's admission that McMahon and other WWF chiefs told everyone to forget matches André and Hulk Hogan had already wrestled elsewhere is fun, and the same could be said for Hulk's genuine fear that André might not do business at 'Mania III.

Playing devil's advocate, McMahon admits to toying with Hogan himself by insisting he didn't know what The Giant wanted to do on the day.

Okerlund divulging that he secretly didn't think André vs. Hulk would be any good (due to André's health problems) is similarly refreshing. This isn't the usual WWE hype machine telling everybody that the 'Mania III main event was one of the greatest in history, and it's better for that.
