5 Ups & 2 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (April 4)

2. Corbin & Ambrose Outdo Themselves

WrestleMania 33's Intercontinental Title match was a huge flop. Baron Corbin and Dean Ambrose wrestled a lifeless contest on the Kickoff Show, and while Ambrose was victorious, he provided nothing for the crowd to get excited about. The duo looked out of sorts and unmotivated while performing on the biggest show of the year, and the bout did little to inspire enthusiasm for future showdowns between the two.

Fortunately, Ambrose and Corbin went a long way to banishing that bout's memory last night. They worked a Street Fight, and while the gold wasn't on the line, the duo were able to outshine their dull Mania offering in every way. The stipulation helped as it allowed them to use weapon spots and wanton violence as a crutch, but they also worked with an intensity that was sorely missing from their previous match, and kept an impressive pace throughout.

It was the fight they should have had at WrestleMania, and felt like two men driven by genuine hatred beating the tar out of each other. Corbin's win should grant him another title shot, and while there was little enthusiasm for their feud prior to the show, last night should change that. Full credit to Ambrose and Corbin for producing the evening's best match, and outdoing everything that has happened in their feud thus far.
