5 Ups & 2 Downs From WWE King And Queen Of The Ring (Results & Review)

5. Anticipating The Next Chapter
Throughout the recent Intercontinental Championship feud, there has been an ongoing story bubbling up that is set to boil over imminently.
The dissolution of Alpha Academy – or at least this iteration of the group – has been forecast from the moment Chad Gable turned heel, as his current charges really aren’t suited to becoming a villainous stable. Akira Tozawa and Maxxine Dupri already have received failing marks, but Otis was something of a question mark heading into King and Queen of the Ring.
During the IC title match, Otis attacked Bronson Reed on cue, delivering for his coach, but he hesitated when it came to laying out Sami Zayn. This enraged Gable to the point that he berated and slapped the big man, telling him to “wake up” and asking if he was going to side with Sami over him. What followed was the predictable heel miscommunication spot, with Otis clotheslining Gable and taking him out of the match. The last scene we saw was Gable glaring at Otis afterward.
On Raw last week, WWE went full melodrama for Alpha Academy’s temptation to turn heel, and it went over poorly. Saturday’s crisis of conscience was much tighter and simpler with Otis, and it played into the finish – Gable got knocked out of the match and likely realizes he can’t win with his current lackeys.
This should open the door to the anticipated partnering of Gable and the Creed Brothers, which could be a perfect fit and an incredible heel stable. Saturday’s mini-angle set things up nicely for the next chapter.
