Ups...

5. DIY Needed This Context

DIY Tommaso Ciampa Johnny Gargano

It's a very pro wrestling thing to present wrestlers as human beings who...don't talk to one another except when backstage or in front of crowds for TV. Tommaso Ciampa ranting and raving at Johnny Gargano this week had a bit of that going on, but it was also vital context for DIY's developing story. Ciampa is frustrated, and now he's given 'Johnny Wrestling' a one week ultimatum.

Tommaso told Gargano he has until next week's episode of figure things out or they'll just do things his way anyway. He's sick of Johnny putting friendships with the Motor City Machine Guns ahead of their quest to regain the WWE Tag-Team Titles. Little backstage moments like this matter a whole hell of a lot for teams like DIY. This was great. The team's future is right up in the air.

We're either getting a full-on heel turn from Johnny or a split. That's progress, and it's certainly way better than DIY being one of those happy go lucky babyface duos who never realistically react to anything going on around them. Ciampa doesn't want to split from Johnny (again), but he's starting to crack and the heel role he played on NXT is beginning to bleed through.

It's believable that this has been going on all week via text/phone too. Gargano's exhausted expressions definitely sold the thought that Ciampa has been yapping away incessantly since last Friday's in-ring tension with Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. WWE should give serious thought to a heel DIY going after the belts, because that'd be badass.

Gargano going 100% villain to placate his partner sounds like an interesting way to take things.
