5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE NXT Battleground (Review)

2. Wes Lee Delivers AGAIN

At what point does it get old talking about how Wes Lee turned in another standout performance on an NXT premium live event?

The NXT North American Champion defended his title against Tyler Bate and Joe Gacy Sunday night in a triple threat at Battleground that was all action from bell to bell. Unlike the typical WWE three-man match, it was not a steady stream of “one guy gets knocked out of the ring for an inordinate amount of time so the other two can go, then one will mix in for a bit to relace another guy, then repeat.”

Rather, this was a barrage of offense from all three men on each other constantly, leading to a flurry of pin attempts that were broken up along the way. It also gave us the stunning visual of Lee hitting a double Cardiac Kick on both Gacy and Bate, but it wasn’t quite enough for Wes. The finish came with Lee putting Gacy away with another Cardiac Kick to counter the Upside-Down, a nicely timed move (if off a fraction of a second).

Hats off to Lee, who added another notch to his title belt Sunday night in a series of them.
