5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Saturday Night's Main Event (14 Dec - Results & Review)

2. Burning Through A Title Match

WWE Saturday Night's Main Event Iyo Sky Rhea Ripley
WWE

Iyo Sky challenging for the Women’s World Championship felt like a big deal. After all, Sky had to earn the title match by winning a battle royal and has been consistently getting solid reactions from crowds.

Liv Morgan’s title reign has been fine for what it is, but ever since WWE showed everyone the WrestleMania match of Iyo versus Rhea Ripley, fans would be forgiven if they didn’t immediately start fantasy booking how to get the title off Morgan pronto.

But on the night, Morgan/Sky did not have that big fight feel of a major title match. They struggled at times to stay in sync, and the finish seemed to come out of nowhere, before they even got into a higher gear. The abrupt finish nine minutes in, with Liv picking up a clean victory when most of her victories have required outside help also felt like an odd choice.

Throw in a Rhea Ripley staredown with Liv afterward to make Iyo look more like an afterthought and you have another strike against this match.

WWE has earned enough trust to not simply turn on this finish and complain, but it still warrants some criticism.
