5 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (Aug 13)

1. The Face-To-Face

"All I need is 1...2...3".

That simple phrase was John Cena's go-to during a face-to-face with Roman Reigns, and it was f*cking brilliant. Cena is untouchable on the mic to most, so it was smart of Roman not to really try and match him; at one point, Reigns even said, "This isn't my game, man".

Reigns came across as someone who'd be out his depth going back-and-forth with Cena, and almost deliberately so. Eventually, he was goaded into making some shoot-style comments about Nikki Bella, but that was about it. This was almost exclusively Cena's platform to sell, sell, sell his chances of winning the Universal Title at SummerSlam.

Predictably, he had that crowd in the palms of his hands.

This was an excellent segment, and the fact it ended with a grinning Reigns holding his prize high above was the cherry on top. WWE successfully gobbled up around half an hour of screen time with one segment, and it didn't feel like these guys were running over.
