5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (20 April)
3. Blackpool Combat Club In Full Flow
Like something pulled straight from WCW television in the early 1990s (an established unit going toe-to-toe with three thrown-together undercard guys), Blackpool Combat Club vs. Dante Martin, Lee Moriarty, and Brock Anderson was a riot.
All six wrestlers understood the assignment here. Particularly Moriarty, who looked excellent in his hometown, showing more fire than at any other time in his AEW career by taking it to the BCC, culminating in him transforming a Danielson pin attempt into the Border City Stretch to tease the upset. Anderson continues to show increased bursts of character between the ropes, showing no hesitation at jumping into the fight, while Martin was his usual stunning self.
A little too stunning, perhaps. Dante's hesitation on the Nosedive led to Jon Moxley recovering, adjusting, and locking him in the Bulldog Choke. Moments later, Martin fell via Paradigm Shift.
Wheeler Yuta's growth continues. Clad in fresh new ring attire to match his rugged stablemates, him partaking in group's now-signature strikes-in-a-submission spot showed, visually, that he is nudging closer to their level and growing week by week.
