5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (27 April)

1. Shot Through The Hart

Dax Harwood Cash Wheeler
AEW

This was perfect.

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler couldn't have crafted a more fitting Owen Hart Foundation Tournament qualifier. From fellow Hart devotee CM Punk's commentary spot and FTR's Hart Foundation-inspired attire to the careful, nuanced, detail-rich work put forth between the ropes, they nailed it.

Shades of Bret and Owen's classic WrestleMania X opener permeated this. There were teases of nastiness as Dax and Cash flirted with violating their unwritten sportsman's code, most notably when Wheeler became flustered with a roughhouse moment in the corner. Later, both hesitated to take the kind of advantages they would against opponents they have less respect for, though their approach was careful. Not once did it come close to entering tedious "why am I so violent?" territory. The heel swings were as meticulous as the wrestlers themselves.

Wheeler hurting his leg early on then selling it throughout paid off in a Sharpshooter spot, which Harwood didn't want to lock in for fear of hurting his partner and best friends. Dax retained enough presence of mind to win from there, however, reversing Cash's own attempt at an inside cradle to score the pinfall.

Cue: an emotional post-match embrace.

This match may not have gone down in the tournament proper, but it's hard to imagine the competition will yield a bout more in-touch with the Hart wrestling legacy. Dax and Cash did a fantastic job. This was pure, uncomplicated professional wrestling, classical in style and execution, with a timeless quality that will ensure its rewatchability for years to come.
