5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (27 April)

Downs…

4. Dressing Up For What?

Rey Fenix
AEW

It was good to see Rey Fenix back on AEW television after a lengthy absence. His injury woes behind him, we may now finally see the long-awaited Death Triangle vs. House Of Black trios match that has been building for months. A supplemental Up for that.

But the segment that reintroduced Fenix was cluttered and contrived.

House Of Black came onto the stage, surrounding a downed Fuego Del Sol then threatening to tear off his mask. They were interrupted by who they thought was a robe-clad Alex Abrahantes in the ring. This was a ruse, though. Lured inside, the House were ambushed by PAC, Penta Oscuro, and Fenix, who had disguised himself in Alex's garb.

A disruptive botch in the physical sequence and Abrahantes' explanation of why he had been dressing up like a villain fit for a children's Halloween party dragged this down. Apparently, the Death Triangle affiliate did this to fool the House of Black, which is fine in the moment, but makes little sense the more you think about it. Rey had been sidelined for months. During this period, Alex's goofy costume trivialised Death Triangle's presentation to a harmful degree, particularly Penta's.

At least it's in the past now.
