5 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite (April 17 - Results & Review)
2. The Elite Continue To Elevate The Show
The Elite Vs. PAC, Penta El Zero Miedo and Daniel Garcia was a very fun match.
The Young Bucks have experimented with a more methodical in-ring style since taking on the EVP gimmick, but this was a more lively and immediate affair than their recent televised output. Instead of stalling, Matthew Jackson sought to generate heat by grabbing a microphone and performing live commentary. This was a good, in-character bit. The higher-up arrogant to think he can do it all was ultimately made a fool of when Garcia, around whom much of this match was plotted, spiked him on his head. Matthew's last-ditch apology was really well-timed.
PAC stormed the ring to blast the Bucks with a pair of Germans. The Bucks bumped themselves daft for this salvo, grasping that PAC needed to look like a killer to appear a threat to Okada's Continental title. The interaction between PAC and Okada was kept brief, as it should have been.
Each man despite being world class has a tendency to stay in a low gear for too long. This tiny glimpse however promised an explosive in-ring dynamic. As lively as the match was, it didn't descend into a party. In fact, the Bucks were exceptional at removing their opponents from the fray just as the action escalated into a state of heart-pounding exhilaration.
This was a formality of a maintenance win, well-measured and exciting but not too exciting, but an effort was made to protect Garcia in defeat. He was laid out by a Superkick party and Rainmaker combination.
In the post-match, Okada and the Bucks continued to beat up Garcia before PAC ran them off with the hammer.
