5 Ups & 4 Downs From Impact Wrestling (Jul 14)

2. Home Turf

Just before Slammiversary, Ace Austin and Trey reignited their X Division Championship rivalry with a huge brawl at Trey's usual gym in Dayton, Ohio. No Mrs Miguel was involved this time around, thankfully.

'The One True Ace' was with (presumably) a random trainee, while Madman Fulton watched on outside the ring to ensure no Rascalz intervened in Ace's final training session before the biggest match of his career. Enter Trey and Wentz, with the latter distracting Fulton to leave Austin all alone for Trey. The Wentz/Fulton shenanigans alone were enough for this to be an Up. Fulton taking a trash can to the back and acting like it was nothing, before being locked in a cupboard momentarily, and finally chasing Wentz all over the gym? It was brilliant.

Trey and Ace's brawl was nothing other than chaotic, something we've come to expect from the two rivals. Both men just laid into one another, reminding us just how great their original rivalry truly was. Ace just tossing a chair off Trey's face made for a fantastic visual, not long before Madman Fulton returned to the scene to catch Ace midair as Trey attempted to lob him off a stage head-first into a pole. At least we learned a fact at the end of the brawl, however, as Fulton was prepared to decimate Trey with a normal steel chair, only to leave as Wentz appeared with a chair wrapped in barbed wire. You never mess with a rascal wielding a barbed wire chair.

Like with the next point, this was a wonderful way to build to the World Championship match on Saturday. With these two, we didn't necessarily need any build seeing as they already have so much history between, but it was a great way to remind us of said history. Add Eddie Edwards and this prospect of a mystery competitor into the mix, and we're set for a monumental title match come Saturday.
