2. Rey Fenix Shines Again

Berto proved to be the perfect opponent for Fenix.

Nathan Frazer did a neat job on last week’s show during Rey’s debut, and this was more of the same. This writer really hopes Los Garza get their reward for hard work soon, because they’re great any time they’re in the ring. This is maybe the best Humberto Carrillo has looked as a singles act since his earliest days on Raw back in late-2019.

Both he and Angel probably need a wee bit more character/personality, but that can be worked on if WWE gives them the chance to work on it. Something is simmering away between those guys and both Santos Escobar and Andrade, at least. The only worry is that only Santos is really a decent promo, so they might need to rely on in-ring work to get fans interested.

OK, enough of that sidebar. Back to Rey Fenix. He's coming across as a star, which is all anybody can ask from his first batch of matches in WWE. Is anyone else getting Rey Mysterio in 2002 vibes? If so, then that's a major compliment. Fenix perhaps had it tougher than his brother Penta (who came into the company first), but he's really making the most of his in-ring minutes.

Some of his main moves, including that kick after running on the top rope and his Mexican Muscle Buster finish, look spectacular. It's still early days, but Fenix is shaping up nicely as somebody who could (in theory) be a fine challenger for Jacob Fatu. Assuming, of course, that the ex-New Bloodline brute wins the United States Title.
