5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (3 May - Results & Review)

1. Anything But “Too Sweet”

AJ Styles Cody Rhodes
WWE

Eek! It hurts to give supreme workers like Cody Rhodes and AJ Styles a 'Down', but this fan cannot ignore how awkward their face to face segment was near the end of SmackDown. It was supposed to be some super-heated, shoot comment-laden exchange, but Lyon wasn't interested in hearing any of that.

They wanted to sing some songs instead of listening. Ouch.

That derailed AJ and caused him to trip over his words, and even Cody couldn't get the fans to stay quiet in time for a Bullet Club reference that was genuinely unnecessary. It came out weird when Rhodes said the group's old "Too Sweet" catchphrase, then Styles made the faction's familiar hand gesture.

Like an idiot, a smiling Cody got suckered into thinking they were about to bump horns and got slapped for his troubles. Oh lord, please don't turn Rhodes in a stereotypically-thick face. He's better than that. It's clear to see what both men were going for here, but it didn't land as intended.
