5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE SmackDown (8 Aug - Results & Review)
2. Well That Didn’t Take Much Convincing!
Carmelo Hayes was rightly miffed at The Miz for dipping out on him for a while there. On Friday, Miz surprised him by coming out of the GM's office (even thought Nick Aldis wasn't inside) and revealing that he's snagged them a tag match next week. That wasn't true, because Miz then asked to speak with Aldis when the General Manager did show up wondering what all the noise was about.
Hayes just…sort of went along with it without much protest, for some reason. So much for Melo being miffed! WWE clearly just don’t know what to do with the guy, and that's sad to see. He's in a constant state of flux between singles action and this tag-team thing with The Miz. Honestly, pick a lane and stick to it with both. The yo-yoing back and forth is doing Carmelo zero favours.
There might be an upside to this if 'Melo Don't Miz' wins next week and gets involved in the tag title hunt too, but that's wishful thinking. No, WWE will probably heat them up again for a few episodes before forgetting about the team when somebody sticks a hand up during creative meetings with an idea for Hayes.
If anything, Melo should've told Miz to cram his tag match where the sun don't shine. Why would he trust somebody who bailed on him right when it looked like they were finally starting to click? Hayes needs a little bit of Kevin Owens-inspired realism to his character. Someone get Kev on the phone to pen these skits, or something.
There are worse ideas!
